MAINTAINING YOUR DIET
Here are some simple tips for your diet which will help you see better results and keep you from experiencing those tempting cravings.

1. Never Pass on Breakfast
You may think you are doing your diet a favor by cutting out some calories by skipping breakfast. This is the WORST decision you can make. Your body needs nutrients in the morning. Skipping breakfast is not good for your body. Your body will trick your brain into craving more food which results in a bigger lunch and snacking.

2. Eat Meals Regularly

Plan your days so you eat at the same time each day. Getting your body on a routine will decrease cravings for snacks and temptations for overeating. Put your meal times into a google calendar and send alerts to your phone.

3. Eat Fruits and Vegetables
Eat enough fruits and vegetables and you will find your sweet tooth staying very quiet. Fruits and vegetables are low in calories and fat. They are also high in fiber which is essential the health of your digestive system. Fruits and vegetables also contain lots of vitamins and minerals.

4. Get Active
A simple exercise program like walking is crucial to losing weight. Diet alone is not going to achieve the results a person needs. Do not make excuses. Plan to take walks in different parks around town to change up the scenery. Join a gym and make some new friends.

5. Drink Water
This is so important. Your body requires 8 glasses of water per day. Because of this, some people confuse the thirst with hunger cravings. You will be surprised how drinking 8 glasses of water throughout the day will eliminate any snack cravings you may experience. This tip is probably the most important piece of advice you’ve read so far!

6. Eat Foods High in Fiber
If you are still feeling hungry during the day, try eating more foods which are high in fiber content. The fiber will help your body to feel full. In return, your cravings will diminish.

7. Do Your Research
Read your food labels to insure you are making wise purchases at the grocery store. Use the calorie information printed on the label or box to inspect the ingredients. You will be surprised at some of the hidden sugars you will find on your favorite product’s labels. Compare the calories to the competitors and make the wisest choice.

8. Eat Smaller Portions
One fun idea is to buy smaller plates at home so you do not eat more than you need to. When dining out, ask for a “takeout box” when you first order. Have the takeout box brought to your table when the meal arrives and fill it until the restaurant portion looks like a reasonable meal. Restaurants always serve up double portions.

9. Treat Yourself
You do not have to completely give up your favorite desert just because you are on a diet. The worst thing you can do is completely give up on your favorite snack. Make it a reward when you reach a goal. Completely giving up on your favorite snack is going to lead to jumping off the diet. Enjoy your treat within your daily calorie allowance.

10. Don’t Store Junk Food
Do not load up on junk food just because it is on sale. Some dieters use the excuse that they are keeping some junk food in the pantry for visitors. This is just a temptation you do not need. If you need something sweet stored away, keep some packs of unsalted butter in the pantry. Pop out one weekend to your local farmers market and purchase some locally grown fruit… and get a little walking in while you shop.

11. Cut Down on Alcohol Consumption
Did you know that a standard glass of wine has as many calories as a piece of chocolate? Alcoholic drinks have a lot of calories. Over time, drinking too much will contribute to your body’s weight gain

12. Plan Your Meals
Plan your meals in advance. There are several apps available where you can plug in your calories and the app will calculate your calorie intake. Planning in advance is a great way to insure you stay within your allotted daily calorie intake.
