New Year’s Skin Resolutions

Call your mother more often, go to the gym at least three days a week, and eat more vegetables. These are just some of the promises we make to ourselves every January 1st, the beginning of the New Year. Did you know that only 46% of people have stuck to their resolutions six months later? At Workman’s Friend we know all about these type of promises because we make them too-every year. Making the resolution is one thing, but actually sticking to it is a completely different story. But there is one promise that you can make in this New Year that we at Workman’s Friend can help you stick to: being kinder to your skin.

Hydrate

Do you remember the doctor’s recommendation that people should drink 8-10 glasses of water a day? There is some truth to this suggestion. Your body needs that water for all its cells, tissues and organs. Not only does water help regulate our temperature but it is required to perform basic bodily functions such as digesting food. Perhaps one of the most obvious changes which occurs, when we drink more water is our skin becomes softer. Some people even say it glows? Dry, flaky and tight skin, are all indicators that it doesn’t have enough moisture. Yes, drinking more water will certainly help. However, applying a hand cream such as Workman’s Friend that is designed to prevent moisture from leaving your body is a second preventative step you can take to prevent water loss.

Diet

You are what you eat. We’ve all heard that expression right? Well, guess what? It’s true, especially when it concerns your skin. Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are the key building blocks to a healthy and disease-free life. Many of us forget to eat well during the holiday season because most Christmas traditions include fattening and sugary foods. The promise of a New Year means many people recommit to their goal of eating well. One of the most obvious results of a balanced diet is having good skin. Similarly to drinking lots of water, the better you eat the softer and more supple your skin will look and feel. To maintain that soft skin especially on your hands, we suggest using Workman’s Friend skin barrier cream. All you need is a thin layer of our cream and you’re soft skin is protected from the harsh and drying elements.

Sun Protection

We are living in an era where we understand the damage the sun can do to our skin. The days of wanting to be sun kissed or bronzed by the sun are a thing of the past. Now we know the sun not only ages our skin prematurely but it can cause sun spots and more importantly cancer. At Workman’s Friend we always recommend wearing sunscreen when you step outside regardless of the time of year or the weather, we do it ourselves. Other than staying indoors with all the blinds closed there is no better way to protect yourself than sunscreen. But after a day of being outside even with sun protection, it’s important to moisturize your skin. That means applying a hydrating cream and one especially designed for your hands such as Workman’s Friend. Often we forget to apply sunscreen to our hands and forearms and in turn they get burnt or become dry. With Workman’s Friend you don’t have to worry about that anymore.

Be Resolute in your Resolution

Your skin, you have only one and it covers your entire body. It is what people see first when they meet you and its condition can reveal a lot about the way you take care of yourself. As you write your list of New Year’s resolutions put ‘taking care of my skin’ at the top of your list. Its soft and supple appearance will show you just how grateful it is. Happy New Year!
