Celebrate National Craft Month

March is National Craft Month! To celebrate, Workman’s friend is offering ideas on staying CRAFTY during the month of March. So, roll up your sleeves and prepare to get messy. As always, be sure to apply Workman’s Friend Barrier Skin Cream before tackling the job.

CUT IT OUT! – Let’s make a collage

Back before the digital age, cutting up photos was expensive and creatively limiting. Today, we can resize digital photos how we want on our computer and print them at any size we want. Take advantage of the technology and create an amazing collage of your friends and family. All you need is a printer, some glossy photo paper, glue and your imagination. Purchase a frame beforehand so you know what size your canvas should be. Once you are done, place your collage into the frame and hang on your memory wall.

A BRUSH WITH DESTINY – Create a painting

There is nothing more relaxing than brushing paint onto a canvas. If you believe that you have no artistic talent at all, you are SO WRONG! Just paint shapes and blend some colors together. Always remember that “less is more”. If you go abstract, limit the number of colors you use and chose colors beforehand that work well together. Painting is therapeutic, so relax and just go with it. You will finish up with something you will be proud to exhibit on your living room wall.

GET FRAMED – Repurpose an old picture frame

Another fun project is to paint old, wooden picture frames. You can find old frames at just about any garage sale. Add some bright, fun colors and marvel at the transformation! The old frames will already have some fun, interesting textures and shapes carved into the wood. Play off of the features with a dry-brush effect to accent the cuts and grooves. Finish up with a sponge to add splashes of more texture. Once you are finished, you just have to find the right picture for the frame so you can get it up on your wall for everyone to see.

WHAT’S COOKING? – Decorate some tasty desserts

Do you want to make art that is guaranteed to be a hit? Bake a cake or some small cupcakes and decorate them with icing, sprinkles and candy. Cake decorating is easy and it is so much fun. Your friends and family will enjoy your talented cooking as well. Who is not going to like a free dessert? Decorate with a decorating bag using a toothpick to fix any rough spots. Decorating a cake just has to look fun. Everyone is so interested in eating your dessert that they are going to love whatever you created. So get baking and decorating… and have fun.

GET INSPIRED – Pop by a craft show

Still not sure what you want to create? Get some inspiration. There are tons of craft shows right now with Spring in the air and Easter right around the corner. Take a nice tour of the talented artists featured at your local craft fair. Ask them questions. These artists love to discuss their trade and will teach you everything you need to know. Be sure a pick up a few items while you are there so you take the inspiration home with you.

If you decide to pick up that paint brush and get crafty, be sure and BARRIER UP! Coat your hands with Workman’s Friend Barrier Skin Cream to form a protective layer around your skin and re-apply every four hours.
